This is one of those wonderful 80s films that incorprate everything that you imagine for a film that comes out of the 80s. What particualy makes it great is who is involved with this film. You've got Gene Kelly, Oliva Newton John, and of course ELO! It's just a wonderful musical which is 1940 meet and blends with 1980. You honestly wouldn't believe it would work but it does. I only bought the film for my mother, who really wasn't all that impressed, but I sat and watched the film and got addicted to it. I had the music going through my head. I got my hands on what I could but have ordered the soundtrack, after all it's me!
Gene Kelly is barely recongisable, age had caught up with him, but every now and then he does a smile, a look and there he is, you can see him coming through. The wrikles and the grey hair disappear and you see the Gene Kelly of old. He even dances on rollor boots, which of course all 80s children will remember was the rage. Boots and disco, which is what this film cashes in on.
Olivia Newton John is beautiful and a voice to die for. Brought back to me how much I wish I could do that. My voice just isn't good enough, espcially at the moment. I just don't sing enough.
ELO as always where fantastic. I forgot how much I loved them.
This film is cheesy, is stereotypically 80s. There is no getting away from that, plot is simple and plain, pradictable, but with the music, the singing and the dancing numbers makes up for it. If you don't like 80s, if you don't like ELO, if you don't like traditional musical movies, you won't like this, but I love it.
