Two blondes were going to Disneyland when they came to a fork in the road. The sign read: "Disneyland Left." So they went home.

War of the Worlds.

posted Fri 15 Jul 05
It's been a long time since I've watched a film and actually been scared by it. I watched War of the Worlds, and have to admit that I found it easy to fall asleep. There were many points throughout the film that I found myself thinking "Just get on with it, you're boring me now!". Dakota Fanning is a fantastic actress but I found that her charactor annoyed me somewhat. She more or less seamed to be spending the entire film screaming. That grated with me. Tom Cruise really wasn't fanatastic in this film, he was suposedly playing a weekend Dad, who didn't know his kids, or how to keep them connected as a family. He just didn't come off like that, he came off as fake. It drove me nuts. I really don't think he should have taken that part. I wasn't convinced of his charactor at all. What was fun to see, however, was Gene Barry make an appearance at the end of the film. He was in the 1953 version of the film. On a fidget rating I give it a 4.5.

So after the film I went home, climbed into bed, watched TVs naughtest bloomers and Providence. Then I slept. During the night I woke up. I was this side of a panic attack, I fought to move any part of my body. I managed to move my head and saw the time. 3.33am (half of 666!?). It was a good ten minutes or so before I could get my body to respond to anything. The more as time went by the more my breathing became laboured, the sweater I became, the more I tried, unsucessfully, to move or scream. I had to close my eyes and sing to myself to get my body to calm down so that I could move. I eventually managed to move, went to the bathroom and ran a cold flannel over my body. I was still scared though. I had to have a song go through my head permernantly. Without that I would have gone into another panic attack. For the life of me, I can not work out what caused all of this. So in the end I have put it down to the film. It had penetrated my subconciousness and gave me a strange dream or something. Who knows? As a result though I'm exhausted! I really don't feel I have slept fantastically well. Thank God I know enough songs that I could sing in my head for an hour. Until I had calmed enough to sleep. I didn't wake up agian until 9am this morning.

My parish priest is getting better. All that is really wrong with him now is that he can't read. He can see big things, but no details. So I've been voice activating his phone so he can call people. As a result I am just everyone's Favourate person!!!! But at least he now has some sort of independance. The libaray also allow those who can't see to hire audio books out of the libaray for free, so we're starting to set that up. Everything is beginning to slot into place. It's pretty cool.

I think Dakota Fanning is fantastic too ... did you see "I am Sam"? Absolutely amazing performance for one so young.

Sounds scary! Did you ever have a panic attack before that left you immobilized?

Gene Barry was (I believe) in the very first episode of Columbo, back in 1968! My Mum used to fancy the pants off of him :-)

@ Queenie: No I've never seen "I am Sam", but your the fourth person to recommend it within a week, so maybe I should go find a copy from somewhere!

@ Pimme: Up until that night, I had only ever had a panic attack once before, and that was while I was having a serious asthma attack. But it never left me immobilised.

@ Jonathan: Gene Barry is a great actor, did you ever see him in "Burkes Law" with the delightful Peter Barton.

@ All: I hate the way you can not leave comments on the messages that people have left, instead I actually have to create a new comment box..... grr, I want the old system back!
