Side A
Relight my fire by Take That. I loved this song so much I’ve taped it twice one after the other. I did love Take That. I prefer their earlier stuff to the later stuff, but that’s just my preference. My favourite was Robbie Williams whilst my sister always had a thing for Howard Donald and his speech impediment. It does make him look cute though, I will give her that.
Trapped by Colonel Abrams. Oh I love this song. I can’t help but sing a long with this song and do a bit of a dance even if I’m sitting in a chair and typing. I’m still moving around.
The Sign by Ace of Base. I do like this song, and I also like their voices. They did a couple of songs, the most recognised is ‘all that she wants’ which I adore. There were not many people who liked Ace of Base but I didn’t care. I recognised their talent and enjoyed it.
Life by Hadaway. Really only known for his song ‘What is Love?’ However this song really isn’t all that bad, it’s not great but it’s not terrible. I have worse songs on this tape.
She Don’t Let Nobody by Chaka Demus & Pliers. I really had a thing for them when I was younger this is the second or third song I have come across during these tapes.
Relax by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. I love this group. I’ve heard a number of their songs and have loved every single one of them. I can’t get enough of them especially ‘The Power of Love’ which only tends to get played at Christmas which baffles me because I don’t think it’s a Christmas song per ca, perhaps it was released at Christmas which is why it only gets played then. The video is awesome though for this song. Go check it out.
Don’t Be A Stranger by Dina Carroll. There is something alluring about this song and I like the guitar tune that plays as fillers between chorus and verse but also between some of the lines. Makes the song more interesting to listen to. If I still had a keyboard I would probably try and work out what the notes where. Then there are the violins at the build up.
Bumped by Right Said Fred. I did say I liked their music!
Young at Heart by Bluebells. What an amazing song. Another song of those sing-a-long and dance along songs.
Oh Carolina by Shaggy. I see there was a fair bit of Reggae (if you can call it that) creeping into my collection during this erea. These days I really don’t have much time for it. If a friend wants to play it in their home I won’t complain, but I don’t put it on if I have a choice.
Step it Up by MC Stereo. This is definitely one of those songs that work for the period in time, but when you hear it outside of that time frame its sounds peculiar and you just have to wonder why it was written and why it did so well?
Tennessee by Arrested Development. This is a song that makes me smile. That is because it used to get played at rolla-rama and we enjoyed rolling around to this song. It was an amazing time. I never got the hang of skating backwards, or doing any stunts but I loved to skate. Unfortunately I can only use quads and they are near impossible to find these days. I did love my quads. I used to use my sisters and was better than she was, then I got my own pair. She still never used hers all that much. That is part of my childhood I’d happily do again. I loved rolla-rama.
Side B
This side starts off with three songs but only snips off, not enough for me to distinguish what they are. Can’t have been that good then!
Ordinary World by Duran Duran. I hadn’t realised just how much I like Duran Duran. Perhaps I should find a best of album. This song is the title of a friends brother film. When I was a teenager (so long after this tape was made) I met this girl who had a twin brother who like to make films. So for one film I got involved. It was a weird ass film, good sound track though, but a lot of fun especially the party and sleep over afterwards. I still have that film somewhere, cringing at myself in it. However the film was called Ordinary World, I think this song played in the credits. I’ve only watched the film once. This song was also the title track for another film, I want to say Interview With A Vampire but I’m not convinced.
A love song for a vampire by Annie Lennox now this song was one of the songs for Interview With A Vampire, it’s what made me want to watch the film.
Is it like today by World Party. Another one of those odd songs that have meaning. A man who’s taking to God, and God is wondering how mankind could make things so bad.
Hope of Deliverance by Paul McCartney. This shocked me, didn’t think I had any of his music. I actually enjoy this song. Just goes to show that listening to old mix tapes can introduce you to all sort of fun and games. Perhaps I should take a look at some of his other songs although I will leave the frog song and the bell song alone.
Informer by Snow. Some of the best misheard lyrics ever… ‘I lick your bum bum now’. Actual lyrics are ‘A licky boom-boom-down’. Shame really because the only reason, I think, I liked this song was the ‘I lick your bum bum now’.
The Love I lost by Sybil. This lady has a fantastic voice. This is another one of those rolla-ramma songs.
Pressure by Sunscream. Its an awful song. Don’t get why I liked it. I have a feeling ti was another Rolla-ramma song it has that feel to it.
Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff Richard. I should admit at this point I have a soft spot for Cliff Richard. I do love his music. I have a canny few bits and pieces by him. I know this will horrify some people but I remember watching his concerts on the TV, I remember sitting with my mother listening to some of his songs and singing along whilst doing something boring that needed to be done. Them where the days.
I would do anything for love (but I won’t do that) by Meatloaf. His early works were brilliant. My mother nor my sister were ever fans but I loved his work. Unfortunately it went a bit funny when he stopped working with Jim Steinman. I really didn’t enjoy Bat Out Of Hell III. I’ve listened to it once and now it just gathers dust but I can’t bring myself to sell it on.
In your Care by Tamsin Archer I haven’t taped much of this song, but it seams nice. Proberbly likes it because it swore.
Constant Craving by KD Lang. I haven’t taped much of this song, but I know I do like this song and often sang it to myself.
Don’t Be A Stranger by Dina Carroll. See above.
Walk the Dinosaur by Was. This is an addictive song. Doesn’t really do much but I love it all the same. A sign of what came out the 80s/early 90s. I think this song appears at the end of Caveman
It must have been love by Roxette. What a song, I don’t think there are many females that don’t love this song. Became the title track for Pretty Woman. Absolute brilliant. Very popular for Kareoke.
YMCA by Village People. Well no collection is complete without a bit of Village People. I know the moves to this song, used to teach it to the kids when I worked at the hospital.
