Side A

Summer Lovin’ by Oliver Newton John and John Trovalta This goes back to the days when I loved the film grease.  These days I could go the rest of my life without ever seeing this film.  I used to watch it a lot at work because my teenagers loved this film, I even created sing along sheets for them.  I learnt to hate this film.  Each time I would just text S say, seen Grease, Pub tonight, See you at 9.  And he would be there waiting for me to finish work.  I was one of those strange people who never saw why people thought that John Trovalta was good looking.  I think he’s just slimey.  However I would rather go for Kinickie.

Rocking all over the world by Status Quo. And here starts my love of Status Quo and this introduced me to rock.  It would take a few more years before my tastes changed and I started looking outside of the pop genre but Status Quo was definitely one of the first ‘non-pop’ groups that I listened to.  Bless them and all their good work for music.

End of Black and White by Michael Jackson This song came out just before all that stuff about Michael trying to turn his skin white, and the child abuse claims.

Daydream by Right Said Fred.  I told you I liked them.  It’s more his voice than anything.  Richard Fairbrass I think his name is.

Uptown Girl by Billy Joel See Comments on Tape 1

Bohemian Rhapsody By Queen Yet another great introduction into non pop music.  Once I got into Queen I discovered that my mother owns a vinyl of theirs.  Night at the Opera which this song is on.  I was a very happy bunny.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears for Fears. An amazing song.  I don’t think there is a single song by Tears for Fears that I have ever heard that I have disliked.  I have liked all their songs in some way or other.  There is something about their music that calls to me.  If I have a song on CD I often put it on repeat so that I can keep on listening to it.

Thought I died and gone to heaven by Bryan Adams. Yes I like a lot of his music.  Leave me alone.

Feel real – ‘feel real, real.  Do you feel real and that’s all I’d like to know.’  That is a line from the song.  I don’t know the real name of the song or who sings it and I can’t find it using google.  If you know it please let me know.

There goes my first love by The Drifters.  Still like this song.

The Gypsy Song by .  A very strange and odd song.  Listening to it now I can see why the young me liked the song.  Now I listen to the song wondering if I like it now, and what possessed someone to write the song, let a long sing it.  Not sure if this is the name of the song and I certainly don't know who the singer is.  I can't make out the words enough to write them here.

Gladiators I loved the theme song to this show, but I wasn’t a fan of the show at all.  I did a bad copy of this song by taping it on my gettoblaster using the built in mic and holding it near the TV speakers.  Sounds rather bad.

Another badly recorded song using the built in mic and TV speakers. Hoots Man by The Thompson Twins.  I think the first time I heard this song it was on a televised Cliff Richard Concert.

Be with you by Mr Big

Side B

Coming up for air by Erasure.  Once again this is a song that captures me.

Deeply Deeply by Right Said Fred.  I love this mans voice especially when he hits those low notes.  I love a good base singer.

To Be With You by Mr Big.  Can’t really see why I like this song and yet there is something nice about it.

I wouldn’t change a think by Kylie Minogue again shows my tastes at the time.  Very popesque and I have to say I still enjoy the song.  Early Kylie was good.

The end (and what I believe to be the best part) of Stay by Shakespear Sisters

Silhouette by Herman’s Hermit.  I love this song!

Coming up for air by Erasure. I really do love this song

Pearly Spencer by Marc Almond.  I love this song, it’s so original sounding and the thunder in the middle is faboulous.  This song is quite dark in it’s own way which is quite surprising for stuff that came out of the 80s/early 90s.  It is very cool.  I need to find a proper copy of this song.

Everybody by Blues Brothers.  I saw the film a wee while ago and really enjoyed it, which surprised me but it was a good film.  More than that however I totally fell in love with the music from the film.

Lay All Your Love On Me by Erasure I think Erasure’s Abba Esp was my first introduction to Abba.  It was like nothing I had ever heard before and I love their version of it.  I like bands who cover songs but make it their own rather than doing an almost perfect copy of a song.  Erasure took the songs and owned them.

Loco Down in Acapulco by Four Tops  Another great song that came out of the 80s.  I hadn’t realised I had this song on an early cassette.  I remember my sister got a mix tape for her birthday full of random but wonderful songs.  This was one of the songs on that tape.  I loved it the moment I first heard it.   I was really jealous that my sister got this tape especially since she didn’t own her own gettoblaster at the time.  So we listened to it on mine a lot.  I then did a copy of the tape.  I hope I find it at some point.

Sealed With A Kiss by Jason Donovan I have talked about Jason Donovan in my previous post.  There is nothing new to add.

Please Don’t Go by Bus Stop

S.O.S by Erasure. Again they have taken this song and owned it!

Only Takes A Minute by Take That. This is the first hit for Take That.  If this song has not made it, if this song had not gone in so high in the charts Take that would not exist.  Scary isn’t it!  This started my love of Take That.
