*As always this is your warning that spoilers do exist!*
I went to see the new star trek film last week. It was quite something to say the least.
When I first heard that there was going to be a new star trek film, and that it was about the original crew and it was to be done by J.J. Abrams I was nervous and scared. How could they do that to an institution.
But it being star trek I couldn't help myself but go and see this film.
I have to say I totally enjoyed it. As long as you see it as a brand new film and not really anything to do with the franchise or else it will annoy the pants off you, like for example that the film basically destroys the entire franchise by changing the past so the future doesn't happen. Just a minor thing!!!
It was really enjoyable, and the script was well done. It wasn't great, that they changed the feel of the enterprise on the inside. Everything looked more modern rather than the original enterprise.
As long as I don't see it as a real star trek film, more an interpretation of star trek or an 'ode' to star trek then I enjoy the film. If I take it as a serious star trek film then it just winds me up.
I have an interesting fact for you all. I don't know how much you know about the star trek universe not just on stage but also off stage. In Plato's Stepchildren Kirk kiss Uhura. For the second time star trek made TV history. The kiss between Kirk and Uhura was the first interacial kiss on TV.
Now what's really interesting is the fact that originally, as written, it was meant to be Spock who kiss Uhura but William Shatner kicked up a stink and he got to do it.
So was the kiss between Spock at Uhura a dig at William Shatner and how petite he was on set (especially toward Leonard Nimoy) or was it something more.... you're thoughts please!
