Two blondes were going to Disneyland when they came to a fork in the road. The sign read: "Disneyland Left." So they went home.

Serenity

posted Thu 20 Oct 05
Oh. My. God.

My whole body is in shock over serenity.  I was driving home, and my mind was not on driving it was on the film.  If you have not seen the film, go see it now... that's right, now... switch off the computer and go.  If you have seen the film, go see it again.  I missed a lot, I know I did.  Everytime I watch the series, I see something new, so I know I missed things.

Let us start with the negative.

Book: Shephard Book was not in the film as much as I would have liked, I've alway's liked Books charactor (especially 'The Hair' and found it hard to watch the cast interact with one another without book being there.  He added a little spice into the family.  The film didn't touch on Book much either.  In the film there were lots of little things about Book that didn't quite add up.  This film did nothing to explain those little something.  But as any good Joss Weadon fan knows, just because someone is dead, doesn't mean they are dead.  I also didn't like the relationship between  Mal and Shephard.  I felt is was fake, and wasn't true to the relationship they had in the series.  Over all Book was disappointing.  In a way a big part of me feels that they should have just left him out, or utilized him more.

The Ending: What annoyed me was that Mal and Inara took that step closer and Kaylee and Simon became close (although River looking in was funny), it just felt wrong.  The whole point of the two couples was the frustration of them not getting together, Simons 'right' with Kaylee's 'common'.  It was brillinat to see.  I really don't like the idea of them being an honest couple, it just feels wrong.  I prefered them when Kaylee was frustrated, and Simon was desperatly keeping his cool.  They fitted.  It was just against nature or something to see them together.

The Positive.

The Script:
The writing was out of this world.  I laughed, I cringed, I got everything I expected to and best of all the trailers did not ruin all the one liners.  There were still plenty to look forward through out the entire film.  The story lines was just something to behold.   When Book died, I was like, Oh that's bad luck, but felt nothing more.  When Wash died, well I almost screamed at the screen, if I had been at home I would have.  My heart sank, and my stomach churned.  If Wash could be killed off, anyone could be, and for a while there it did look as though everyone would be killed off.  It was pure genius, it really was.  It was gutsy and out of this world.  I never thought anyone would kill two main charactors like that.  Wash being killed so suddenly as well.  I stoped breathing.  I expected him to be back at the end.  In fact when it first happened, I thought that perhaps we had been watching something going on inside of River's mind, that we would snap back to reality and everyone would be fine.

Over all

This film was everything you could expect from the god that is Joss Weadon.  I took a friend who knew nothing of Firefly to go and see it, and she loves it.  I'm going to  buy here the DVDs as a treat.  She's hooked.  She's going to take her boyfriend to go see it.  I loved the fact we saw more into why what happened to River happened, and where the reavers came from.  Absolutely brilliant.  IT really was.  It was however, a lot darker than the series, I was not prepared for that, I thought it would be more like the series, more light hearted.  *I hate to add this but the film seamed to age everyone about 10 years..... how bad is that!*

I'm took shell shocked at the moment to write about it all properly.  What I will say though is Congratulations to all those involved in the production, the cast, the crew, the writers, the cooks, the extras, the broancoats and anyone I've missed out.  You must all be so proud of what you have accomplished with the film.  Truely awe inspiring.  Once the shock has subsided I'll try and write some more about the film, or add to this entry.  But this is me getting everything out now, while it's fresh in my mind.  Man I want to go and see it again, I really do.

Fidget rating = 0 (I should give it 1, but it was more the seats were uncomfortable that the film was bad).
Rating = 10.

A good review. Like you, I couldn't think of much else for a while (but you read my review, you know that). I haven't had time to go back and see it, but I probably will and I'll certainly own the DVD (perhaps within minutes of its release!).

Mr Dan: As they came in to land at Mr Universe and Firefly was being destoryed little by little, I knew something was going to happen, the ship being destroyed like that, Joss wouldn't do it unless something big was happening. It was meant to put us off the scent. When Wash died, I was speachless, I knew something big was going to happen but I didn't think in my wildest dreams he would kill another main cast member.

John: I already have a amazon notice for them to email me to tell me I can pre-order it. I want that film so bad.
