I have, probably like a lot of other people tonight, watched the finale of Dr. Who. Although I enjoyed it, seeing all 'The Children of Time' come together. It was full of cliches and other randomness. I laughed a lot, but it also really, really annoyed me. I mean really annoyed me. Yet again I found myself hurling abuse at the TV and at the show. I do wish that the writer would play things out a little more, I always feel that they do everything way too quickly. It finished before it has a time to start. Dr Donna was fantastic though, really really fantastic. She made me laugh, but I really attacked the show when Rose and The Doctor II kissed. It was insane.
The whole thing almost felt like it was completely taking the piss out of itself and almost felt like an insult to those of us who have been Dr Who fans for quite a while. The new Dr Who just doesn't feel like it's a continuation of Dr Who of old. It almost feels like two completely different shows rather than a continuation of the show of old with a modern day feel.
It was a good episode I just wish I felt as though the new writers/creators were taking Dr Who seriously.
I felt the same way. The episode spent all its time doing a kind of roll
call of every character from the last four years -- even Rose's mum with an
anti-Dalek gun -- so there wasn't time for drama. Every plot development
was a consequence of how the science/magic arbitrarily worked.
