There is a song that I have liked for many years. I love the tune to it, but for years I have never known what the lyrics are and for what ever reason I've never thought about looking up the lyrics because I never think about it when I'm near google.
I heard the song on the radio the other day so I looked up the lyrics... the song is 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley. I regret doing this. I still love the song, it's fantastic it's just a shame that the lyrics are crap! I refuse to sing the lyrics, I just hum along or make up my own words. I can't believe a tune I love so much, and a tune that makes me feel good goes along with lyrics that just suck!!!!!
"Nobody on the road,
nobody on the beach.
I feel it in the air,
the summers out of reach
Empty lake, empty streets,
the sun goes down alone.
I'm driving by your house
though i know that you not home...
And i can see you
you brown skin shining in the sun
you got your hair combed back
sunglasses on baby
and i can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boy of summer have gone.
out on the road today
i saw a dead head sticker on a cadillac
a voice inside my head said don't look back
you can never look back
i thought i knew what love was
what did i know
those days are gone for ever
i should just let them go and...
i can see you
your brown skin shining in the sun
you know your walking real slow
smiling at everyone
i can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boys of summer have gone.
I never will forget those nights
i wonder if it was a dream
remember how you drove me crazy?
remember how i made you scream?
now i don't understand what happed to our love
now baby gonna get you back
gonna show you what i'm made of...
i can see you
your brown skin shining in the sun
you got your top pulled down,
radio on baby
and i can tell you
my love for you will still be strong
after the boys of summer have gone."
This is not the first time this has happened to me. There have been a number of songs in the past that have done this to me. I've really enjoy the tune but when I go to look up the lyrics I have been bitterly disappointed. When I remember what they are I will post them here, but true to for I can't think of any of them, except there is one I have a vague recollection of which the lyrics talk about 3 O'Clock, time, but I need to do more research to work out what the song is about... but I'm pretty sure I enjoyed the tune and not the lyrics.... I'll update if I remember it!
So my question to all of you is have you had the same thing? What songs do you enjoy the tune, not knowing the lyrics too. So you finally looked up the lyric and regretted it. Let's make a list here.
Don Henley: Boys of Summer donated by Spike
Boys of Summer is a song with a very nostalgic sound to it, which
succeeds in bringing back memories for me. When it came out I had been sent
over to Orange County in California for 'a few days' - which turned into
six weeks of stupid hours - at what looked like a very delicate time in a
relationship. This song seemed to be on the car radio every time I turned
it on.
